Creating Trauma-Informed Spaces (2 CECs- Trauma Treatment)

As we realize just how widespread trauma really is and the impact it has on the lives of those around us it is clear that we need a system with trauma-informed approaches. When Roger Fallot, PhD and Maxine Harris, PhD made the distinction between trauma specific services and trauma-informed care people began to view the world in a different way.

This workshop is designed to give the basic cultural changes that occur when viewing our environment through a trauma lens. It will take the participant through a trauma-informed frame work and apply it to the settings and environments where we do our work. Tools for assessing the environment will be explored and participants will learn ways to involve consumers as they work together to change the spaces where recovery happens.

Trainer: Colette Anderson, LCSW

Creating a Culture of Trauma-Informed Care (4 CEC's- Trauma Treatment)

A trauma-informed, gender-responsive culture 1) responds to the effects of traumatic stress, 2) reflects the different treatment needs of men and women, 3) addresses staff’s needs, and 4) builds a healthy physical environment.  From managers to receptionists the principles of trauma-informed, gender-responsive care are applicable to all staff. This training goes beyond an overview of trauma and shares practical, low-cost ideas from agencies who have transformed their culture. Important concepts such as grounding, trauma-specific models, trauma-informed care, the 5 key elements of a trauma-informed system, and gender-responsiveness will be described. This workshop also includes elements of staff care, assessing your agency culture and the physical environment.

Trainer: Colette Anderson, LCSW

De-escalation and Engagement Strategies: A Trauma-Informed Approach (3CECs- Clinical Skill, Relationship and Violence)

Aggressive and drug-seeking behavior creates unique and often frustrating challenges in clinical settings, often these behaviors are fueled by substance use and trauma related disorders. This presentation will offer strategies for addressing these behaviors in an assertive and therapeutic approach, while retaining patient engagement. This presentation offers an overview of the impact of trauma on the recovery process from a social, biological, psychological, and spiritual perspective and will provide clinicians with skills to work with people affected by substance use and trauma throughout their recovery, as well as, understanding the conceptual framework of trauma-informed practice.

Trainer: Chris Dorval, MSW, LCSW, LCDP, LCDCS, ICADC
