This training is focused on teaching participants trauma-informed and restorative justice approaches to sexual harm. In this three-hour program, folks will explore why alternatives to the punitive system are needed from an anti-oppressive and survivor-led lens. We will dive into the meaning and roots of restorative justice, which comes from Indigenous, Jewish, and Mennonite communities. In an interactive setting, we will explore this survivor-centered approach that aims to make justice synonymous with healing. The emphasis is on supporting survivors in healing after harm and holding perpetrators accountable while emphasizing the importance of public safety. Additionally, we will unpack common myths about restorative justice such as, whether it is too soft on crime and whether survivors really want this approach.
